Whiplash

What is Whiplash?

whiplashWhiplash is a neck injury caused due to the sudden movement of the head backward, forward, or sideways. While it occurs most commonly during a motor vehicle accident, there can be other causes as well, such as sports injuries, physical abuse, or trauma.

The symptoms of whiplash include:

  • Neck pain and stiffness
  • Headache
  • Muscle spasm
  • Pain in arms and shoulders

While the symptoms of whiplash usually resolve after a few weeks, physical therapy is often necessary to help the patient restore their range of motion and resume their normal activities. In addition to recommending exercises to strengthen muscles and restore mobility, a physiotherapist can also recommend foam collars to patients who are experiencing severe pain and discomfort.
