Ultrasound Physiotherapy Treatments in Toronto

Ultrasound physiotherapyOur Toronto Physiotherapists use Ultrasound as a very effective therapeutic modality. There is a difference between diagnostic Ultrasound and Therapeutic Ultrasound. The Ultrasound used by our physiotherapists in Don Mills has a range of 1-3 MHz and unlike diagnostic Ultrasound which has a higher frequency is absorbed by the tissue. Depending on the depth of the targeted tissue and the condition treated, different parameters are chosen and combined to deliver effective treatment.

Physiomobility clinics use modern and state of the art modalities as part of physiotherapy treatments.

Typically, Ultrasound waves are not felt by patients and take between 3-5 minutes. When a very large area is being treated or scar tissue is broken down, this time can be longer.

Conditions treated with ultrasound include:

  • Acute inflammation
  • Swelling
  • Acute ligamentous injuries
  • Muscle strains
  • Contusions & Bruises
  • Hematoma (Bleeding inside muscle)
  • Muscle tightness
  • Scar tissue break down
  • Tendonitis
  • Bursitis

Ultrasound is used to decrease pain and promote tissue healing by increasing blood flow to the target tissue as well as promote relaxation in tight muscles and breaking down scar tissue.
