Tendonitis

What is Tendonitis?

Tendonitis & BursitisThe inflammation, irritation, or tearing of tendons is known as tendonitis. Tendons are strong tissues that attach muscles to bones and facilitate muscle contraction. Sports injuries and trauma experienced during motor vehicle accidents are the primary cause of tendonitis. In addition to this, the repetitive use of a particular muscle group can also lead to tendonitis.

The symptoms of tendonitis include:

  • Pain that gets worse when the affected area is moved
  • Muscle stiffness
  • Muscle weakness
  • Inflammation and redness of the affected area

In addition to the treatment of tendonitis, physiotherapists can also suggest you different exercises to reduce your risk of tendon injuries. Improving workplace ergonomics can also limit the damage caused by repetitive movements. Depending on the severity of your symptoms, your physiotherapist will also develop a specialized program to stretch and strengthen the injured tendons and restore muscle mobility.
