Physiotherapy Treatment for Spinal Stenosis in Toronto

Physiotherapy Treatment for Spinal Stenosis

What is Spinal Stenosis?

spinal stenosisSpinal Stenosis is the narrowing of the foramen and spinal canal, resulting in the nerve roots become compressed. The spinal canal is the center of the spinal column and the spinal foramen passages become narrowed. Spinal stenosis is due to the slow, degenerative aging process of the spine and occasionally due to an injury, causing it to congeal and calcify.

Middle-aged and older individuals have a higher chance of developing spinal stenosis. The symptoms of spinal stenosis vary and depend on the region of the spine affected. Most commonly, the region affected is the lower back or neck. People may feel pain, weakness, tingling, and numbness, traveling from their lower back and into their buttocks and legs.

Regular sessions with a physiotherapist can help individuals treat spinal stenosis. Some of the treatments physiotherapists recommend include soft tissue massage, muscle strengthening exercises, stretching, and remedial massage.
