Shoulder Dislocation Treatment in Toronto

What are Shoulder Joint Dislocations and Subluxations?

Shoulder dislocationAs the most mobile joint in the body, the shoulder can rotate and move through a lot of directions. Unfortunately, the flip side of this dexterity is the fact that the shoulder is also the joint most prone to dislocations and subluxations (Partial dislocation).

The shoulder is dislocated when it completely pops out of its socket. Sometimes, however, the dislocation is partial in nature, and only involves the head of the humerus, or upper arm bone, to leave the joint. This partial dislocation is referred to as a subluxation. Dislocations, whether complete or partial, can often lead to instability of a chronic nature in the shoulder. The dislocation also has the potential to tear ligaments or tendons, or to damage nerves.

Some symptoms of dislocations and subluxations include:

  • Tenderness
  • Inflammation
  • Bruising
  • Weakness
