Patients who are scheduled for hip replacement or knee replacement may have to wait weeks if not months for their operation. While waiting for your scheduled surgery, an assessment and possibly a pre-operation rehabilitation program is in order.
Our physiotherapists in Toronto will assess you to determine a baseline of knowledge and information about your general state of health and abilities, your muscle strength, your ability to walk and much more. This information will help us to assist you in pain management, teach you techniques for pacing yourself after the surgery, teach you how to use an assistive device such as cane or crutch and learn how to manage post-surgery swelling and how to identify and prevent possible complications. We will also assess your possible need for safety equipment at home. Your Thornhill physiotherapist will design an exercise program to strengthen your weak muscles, improve your balance and teach you how to use mobility aids such as a cane, crutch or walker.
Pre-operative treatment is aimed to help you achieve faster and better recovery after your operation. After your operation, the goal of your physiotherapy treatment plans differ from your pre-Operative program and it is aimed to assist you to function at your maximal ability and hopefully lead a pain-free or less painful and more active lifestyle and enjoy your friends and family.
Our Registered Physiotherapists in Toronto will work closely with your surgeon and GP to coordinate your treatment program. Contact us, we are here to help.
