Is physiotherapy covered by Insurance?

At Physiomobility, all physiotherapy services are provided by registered physiotherapists. If you have coverage through work or a private plan for physiotherapy, all or part of your treatments may be covered. We do not need a referral for physiotherapy. Occasionally, insurance payers may need a referral from a physician to reimburse your treatment cost. Our administrative team will assist you with direct billing to your insurance when your plan allows direct billing.

We are a licensed provider for WSIB & FSCO (MVA & Car Accident insurance providers in Ontario), so your physiotherapy treatments for injuries as a result of work or car accident are covered as long as you have an approved claim. Our administrative team is very experienced in dealing with WSIB & MVA and can answer your questions.

you don’t need a doctor’s referral to see us. Though you may need a referral for insurance purposes. With your permission, we will ensure to inform your primary care physician and/or specialist of your treatment program and your progress. Successful recovery requires teamwork and you are the most important member of the team.

Ultrasound Therapy

Our Toronto Physiotherapists use Ultrasound as a very effective therapeutic modality. There is a difference between diagnostic Ultrasound and Therapeutic Ultrasound. The Ultrasound used by our physiotherapists in North York has a range of 1-3 MHz and unlike diagnostic Ultrasound which has a higher frequency is absorbed by the tissue. Depending on the depth of the targeted tissue and the condition treated, different parameters are chosen and combined to deliver effective treatment.

Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS)

Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) is an electrical current produced by a range of devices and is mainly used to stimulate the nervous system to manage acute and chronic pain. The therapeutic current transmits through the skin and is used to block the nerves conveying the pain messages to the brain. When lower frequencies are used, the current stimulates the nervous system to release endorphins (natural pain killers) into the bloodstream. The feeling of the current is not as pleasant as IFC but in recent years, TENS has gained a reputation for a safe modality to manage chronic pain.

How Does TENS Machine Work?

A typical TENS stimulation creates pins and needles like sensation and can last up to 30 minutes. For patients who suffer from chronic pain, a battery-operated TENS unit is a safe modality for home use.

Soft Tissue Mobilization

Joints are surrounded by muscles and tendons (the tissue that attaches each muscle to the bone), ligaments and capsules each of which plays an important role. Bad posture, whiplash and other orthopedic or sports injuries often cause muscle tension which in turn decreases joint motion. High Voltage Electrical Stimulation

High voltage electrical stimulation is another form of electrical stimulation used by our Toronto physiotherapists. The application of High Voltage is similar to IFC and TENS. Interferential Current Therapy (IFC)

One of the most effective and commonly used electrical stimulation modalities is Interferential current therapy (IFC). It is a safe and effective treatment with no known side effects.

IFC impulses are delivered through the skin into deeper muscles & tissues by electrodes around the injured area of the body. Most treatment sessions last between fifteen to twenty minutes. Patients experience a tingling sensation that is strong but not uncomfortable. Patients describe their experience as pleasant and comforting.

IASTM (Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization)
