Therapeutic Massage

Therapeutic massage is a treatment massage using many different techniques. It can be a gentle relaxing massage or a tense and deep tissue massage. After muscle and tendon injuries, fractures, operations, injured muscles become tense, knotted and immobile. These techniques employed by registered massage therapists in Toronto can assist in speeding up the healing process and prevent complications such as scar tissue formation, decreased joint mobility and assist the patient to return to their normal life. Remedial or Therapeutic massage treats not only the injured area but the whole body and addresses the root cause of pain. Therapeutic massage can lower cortisol levels and increase serotonin and dopamine levels. These hormonal changes control pain, improve mood, enhance sleep, decrease stress and anxiety, and promote relaxation.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage techniques are suitable for deeper tissues and body structures such as muscles and fascia. A deep tissue massage is used in sports injuries to promote tissue healing and prevent scar tissue formation as well as releasing muscle tension and trigger points. A deep tissue massage is generally used for larger muscle groups such as neck and upper back or thigh muscles and ITB. Our massage therapists in Toronto use deep tissue massages to:

  • Release muscle tension in deeper structures
  • Release chemicals such as lactic acid from muscles
  • Increase blood supply and oxygen to tissues
  • Break down scar tissue
  • Prevent scar tissue formation

The movements and techniques are generally similar to lighter massage techniques such as Swedish massage applying more intense pressure. There might be some discomfort associated with a deep tissue massage. Many people refer to this discomfort as “good pain”. It is not uncommon to feel mild pain a few days following a deep tissue massage similar to mild soreness after starting an exercise regimen.

Myofascial Release Massage

Myofascial Release is a very effective treatment usually employed by our sports massage therapists and chiropractors for treating recurring conditions. It is a hands-on technique and has been used many decades for treating difficult and chronic back conditions.

Myofascial is a web-like tissue covering large muscles in the neck, back, and hip area. Tight Myofascia causes:

  • Headaches
  • Muscle pain and spasms
  • Chronic back and neck pain
  • Breathing difficulties
  • Poor posture and reduced flexibility

Myofascial release is an effective treatment to break down scar tissue, realign fascia, increase blood flow and improve flexibility to manage pain and to restore movement and strength.

  • Low back pain
  • Headaches
  • Whiplash
  • Neck injuries
  • Neck muscle tension
  • Pain caused by poor posture or arthritis
  • Shoulder injuries

The pressure can range from a very gentle touch to deeper pressure. The pressure from Myofascial Release Therapy should never be beyond your tolerance and it is important to give feedback to your practitioner during the treatment.

Prenatal & Postpartum Massage

A pregnancy massage is for an expectant mother and aims to address the specific needs of an expecting mother (Prenatal) or a mother who has recently given birth (Postpartum).

Expecting or new mothers commonly suffer from back pain, swelling of legs, leg cramps, and foot pain. Like a regular massage, pregnancy or postnatal massage is to relax tense muscles, decrease pain, improve blood flow, decrease edema and swelling of legs, and improve flexibility and joint mobility.

Pregnancy massage is specifically tailored to the needs of pregnant women and their changing bodies. Because most pregnant women find it uncomfortable to lie face down, knowledge and care are required to make sure the patient is comfortable. Our massage therapists in Toronto are trained in prenatal and postnatal massage and have a good understanding of how to safely position an expecting mother and use appropriate massage techniques.

At the end of a stressful week, the soothing hands of our massage therapists in Toronto can relieve pain caused by muscle tension or prolonged sitting or standing or simply relieve stress and energize you to continue on your projects. No matter what the cause of discomfort or pain, a relaxation massage session improves general health and creates a state of well being. Our Don Mills massage therapists may combine different techniques such as Swedish massage or hot stone massage to bring you the relaxation you deserve.

  • Reduce muscle tension
  • Improved blood flow
  • Reduce stress
  • Enhance the sense of well being
  • Improve Mood
  • Improve sleep
  • The increased energy level and vitality

Swedish Massage

Swedish massage is a type of therapeutic massage and is the most common and better-known type of massage in North America and the western world. Our trained and registered massage therapists in Toronto employ different techniques in massage therapy including Swedish, deep tissue massage, relaxation massage and many more. Swedish massage is based on the western knowledge of anatomy and physiology and is the most common massage technique in treating injuries.

Since Swedish massage is not a deep tissue technique, it is commonly used for general relaxation or for treating patients after severe injuries such as whiplash, sports injuries, sprains and strain, and other muscle or joint injuries. This technique of massage therapy, Swedish massage, is also perfect for people who have not had previous experience with massage or people who may not be comfortable with deep tissue techniques.

Sports Massage

Sports Massage is used before, during, and after sporting events. The purpose of the message is to improve the athlete’s performance by warming up muscles, improving blood flow and reducing fatigue after a game. It is also used to decrease swelling, reduce muscle tension, increase flexibility and ultimately to prevent injuries.

Massage therapy for sports injuries is the application of various massage techniques to help athletes prevent injuries, prepare for the physical demand for training or competition, perform better and/ or recover from injuries. It can be applied before, during and after a sporting event to assist the athlete for peak performance or prevent fatigue and assist in recovering after the event. Local teams, clubs and individual athletes all benefit from sports massage therapy delivered by our Toronto massage therapists.

One doesn’t have to be an athlete to suffer injuries related to sports and physical activities. Muscle strains, tendon, and ligament sprains and increased muscle tension after a workout all are conditions that a sports massage therapist can treat.

Our sport massage therapists in Toronto are trained and are able to provide pre-event, on-site & post-event.

Lymphatic Drainage Massage

Our body’s lymph system is a network of lymph nodes and lymph channels. The lymphatic system is responsible for the proper fluid flow of the body and when compromised or injured the lymph circulation stagnates and this results in the accumulation of fluids in legs and organs and causing swelling and serious illness. A healthy lymphatic flow is essential in healthy body metabolism, detoxification, and regeneration of tissues as well as to help to maintain a strong immune system.

Unlike other forms of massage, lymphatic drainage is the application of very light pressure and soft pumping using hands or body brush in the direction of the lymph nodes and channels. An understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the body’s lymphatic system is essential in providing successful treatment.

Lymphatic drainage was developed in the 1930s and is a form of massage technique that is used to stimulate and improve the body’s fluid flow. An improved lymphatic flow improves metabolism and helps the body to eliminate waste and toxins which in turn strengthens the immune system.

Our trained massage therapists in Toronto apply different techniques in lymphatic drainage and commonly treat patients who need this type of massage technique after operations or in chronic conditions.

Foot Massage

Our Massage therapists in Don Mills provide foot massage as part of their treatment for general relaxation or to address foot pain. Whether your foot pain is due to arthritis, Plantar Fasciitis, poor circulation, diabetes or you simply walking or standing too long, our massage therapists have the right treatment for you.

Conditions such as diabetes, ulcers, and varicose veins all can cause soft tissue pain. Sports injuries, orthopedic conditions, fractures, and sprain/strains can all be a reason for decreased overall mobility and muscle tightness in small foot muscles and calve muscles. Foot massage helps to give you that relaxed feeling after a day of being on your feet, or will help you to recover from the injury you sustained in your feet.

A good foot massage is an incredible healing experience that helps to alleviate not only the pain symptoms in lower extremity and feet but to manage other symptoms such as headache, insomnia, chronic fatigue.

Foot massage is one of the most enjoyable massage experiences. A proper foot massage is one of the strongest stress relieving treatments and is a great way to end a full body massage.

Massaging your feet will help you augment, develop, maintain, and rehabilitate physical function. If you have been injured or you’re so stressed that relaxation is impossible, come to us. Don’t settle for a life full of aches and tension. We’ll alleviate your pain and reduce your stress in no time.

Hot Stone Massage

A hot stone massage is a massage therapy technique using heated smooth, flat rocks made of basalt which is rich in iron and retains the heat. Stones are heated in warm water with controlled and measured temperature and are placed on certain points on the body such as points on the spine, palms of hands or between the toes. Our massage therapists in Toronto use a flat warm stone to massage the muscles and relax the body. The warmth of hot stones has a calming effect on the nervous system and improves circulation.

Since ancient times, heated stones were used for healing. In recent years, the use of hot stones for massage has caught on and has made hot stone massage a popular technique for relaxation and reducing tension. Hot stone massage also helps to relieve pain, headache and more…
