Physiotherapy Treatment for Hip Bursitis in Toronto

What is Hip Bursitis?

Hip bursitisHip bursitis is a condition where the bursa becomes inflamed. Bursa is a small fluid-filled closed sac that helps reduce friction when two surfaces in the body glide against one another. In the hip, the bursa is located on the femur on the side of your hip.

Some of the common symptoms of hip bursitis include

  • Swelling and pain in the side of the hip
  • Pain that travels down the knees and outside of the thighs
  • Pain in the outer thighs and hips when climbing stairs, sitting cross-legged or when standing for a long period of time
  • Pain when sleeping on the side of the affected bursa

In addition to the treatment options, your physiotherapist can recommend some exercises that will help stretch and strengthen the hip muscles. This can help in treating hip bursitis and also prevent it from happening again in the future
