What Are The Benefits Of Deep Tissue Massage?

Physiomobility Don Mills’ registered massage therapists use deep tissue massages to:

  • Release muscle tension in deeper structures
  • Release chemicals such as lactic acid from muscles
  • Increase blood supply and oxygen to tissues
  • Break down scar tissue
  • Prevent scar tissue formation

The movements and techniques are generally similar to lighter massage techniques such as Swedish massage applying more intense pressure. There might be some discomfort associated with a deep tissue massage. Many people refer to this discomfort as “good pain”.

It is not uncommon to feel mild pain a few days following a deep tissue massage similar to mild soreness after starting an exercise regimen.

How Do I Reduce Soreness After A Deep Tissue Massage?

It is important to inform your massage therapist if the pressure is too much or too little. If necessary, our Toronto massage therapist will apply ice or heat at the end of the session. Ensure to drink plenty of water after a deep tissue massage to help flush lactic acid out of the tissues and reduce the soreness. Stretching the muscles in the following days will maintain the results of your treatment. Our massage therapist or exercise therapist assist you to stretch the tissue properly.

Should I have A Deep Tissue Massage Regularly?

It all depends on condition and injury. You may need only a few treatment sessions; however, a chronic condition such as frozen shoulder or low back pain often requires more frequent or ongoing infrequent maintenance treatments that are gradually spaced out. A maintenance message is usually scheduled on a regular monthly basis to maintain the mobility and improve function and prevent worsening of the condition.
