Amy is very excited to offer clinical services which focus on the integrative management of mental and physical illness using traditional Western medical therapy, psychotherapy and yoga therapy. This combination of skills makes her a valued presence in the Canadian medical and yoga communities. She practices as a family physician licensed by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO).
Training and Credentials
Amy graduated as a Medical Doctor from the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine at McMaster University. She completed her Postgraduate medical training in Family Medicine at the University of Toronto’s Department of Family and Community Medicine (Mount Sinai Hospital) where she sought focused training in Trauma Psychiatry and in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Interpersonal Therapy. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in Women’s Studies and Anthropology from the University of Toronto and a Master of Public Health degree from the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto.
Since completing her medical and academic training, Amy continues to explore her interests in mind-body health. In 2011, she undertook Mind-Body Medicine training through the Benson-Henry Institute for Mind-Body Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard University. She recently completed a training course in Mindfulness Meditation for Stress Reduction (MBSR) through the Mount Sinai Psychotherapy Institute. She is also undertaking graduate studies in Pain Management through the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Alberta. Currently, she works as a Medical Officer with the Canadian Forces, providing primary and occupational medical care to military members.
Amy is also a Certified Yoga Teacher at the 250 hour level. She studied with Cynthia Funk and the faculty at The Yoga Sanctuary in Toronto. In addition to this training, she has also been fortunate to study with numerous others, including Amy Weintraub, Anodea Judith, Bo Forbes, Kelly McGonigal, Cindy Lee and Jennifer Reis. Amy is a LifeForce Yoga® Level 1 Practitioner and is certified in the use of specific yoga practices designed to work with and manage mood.
Amy is a Certificant of the College of Family Physicians of Canada and a Clinical Member of the General Practice Psychotherapy Association. She is also a Member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists.
