Laser therapy is the application of light energy to tissue to stimulate tissue healing after injuries or in acute and chronic pain conditions.
Your Toronto physiotherapist or chiropractor may use laser therapy as part of your treatment protocol and combines it with manual therapy and exercise therapy.
How Does it Work?
Low Lever Laser Therapy application does not produce heat or vibration like Ultrasound. It delivers its effect through photochemical properties at the cellular level and produces ATP (the energy source of all cells). Through this process, laser therapy helps the cells to naturally heal.
Laser therapy is used to control inflammation, speed up the healing process and improve tensile strength of the targeted tissue all of which brings pain relief to patient. Laser therapy is an effective treatment modality for professional and recreational athletes or active individuals since it greatly shortens the recovery time and helps the individual to get back to their game.
Laser beam can be used to stimulate acupuncture points and is used for treating patients when acupuncture is a modality of choice but for much different reason including fear of needles or hypersensitivity, needle acupuncture is substituted by laser.
Laser therapy is commonly used for treating:
- Soft-tissue injuries
- Chronic pain
- Post-operative pain
- Joint dysfunctions
- Post surgical pain
- Myofascial pain syndromes
- As a substitute for acupuncture
Physiomobility clinics do not charge an additional charge for the inclusion of laser therapy in your physiotherapy or chiropractic treatment. The cost of your treatments will be covered by your insurance plan.
